Counselling & Nature Therapy

INDOOR | ONLINE | WALK & TALK | GROUPWORK

Sometimes we know exactly what is troubling us. At other times, we simply have a sense that something isn’t quite right — perhaps feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck in familiar patterns, or finding that relationships and life changes are becoming difficult to navigate.

Counselling offers a space to slow things down and explore what is happening. My focus is mainly with psychodynamic counselling, and I work with an understanding that our present experiences are often influenced by relationships and events experienced throughout our lives. I also enjoy drawing from person-centred, gestalt, creative and existential models to provide a more integrated practice for our work together.

We are all different and to make our experience as comfortable as possible for you, I offer traditional indoor sessions, flexible online appointments and walking & talking therapy.

Ways We Can Work Together

Individual Counselling–In Person or Online

Individual counselling provides a confidential, non-judgemental space in which we can explore whatever is bringing you to therapy.

Rather than offering advice or telling you what you should do, counselling gives us time to become curious about what is happening — including the feelings and patterns that may be less immediately obvious.

Please visit my profile on the BACP website for a detailed description of my counselling service.

I also offer a free introductory 15 minute call to see if you feel we might be able to work together.

Sessions are available in person or online, allowing you to choose whichever setting works best for you.

Walk & Talk Counselling

For some people, sitting opposite someone in a counselling room doesn’t feel like the easiest way to talk.

Walking alongside one another can create a different kind of therapeutic space. Movement can help conversation feel less intense, while the changing landscape provides natural moments of pause and reflection.

These are counselling sessions rather than guided walks. We may notice or use aspects of the natural environment when it feels helpful, but there is no expectation that you need to know anything about nature or even be particularly “outdoorsy”.

The pace is gentle and adapted to you.

Therapeutic Groups

There can be something particularly powerful about discovering that other people experience some of the same uncertainties, fears and difficulties that we do.

I facilitate small, supportive groups exploring emotional wellbeing through a combination of conversation, reflection and simple experiential activities.

Themes can include stress and anxiety, understanding our emotional and physical responses, finding a sense of safety, recognising patterns, building confidence and developing ways of responding to difficult experiences with greater awareness and choice.

Where appropriate, sessions may incorporate movement, mindfulness, sensory awareness, nature, plants, creative activities and time outdoors. The emphasis is not on being good at any of these things. It is about curiosity, connection and discovering what works for each individual.

Group programmes can be developed for community organisations, charities and other groups, as well as offered directly through Thyme for Nature.

Please contact for an informal chat about your group’s requirements and Ann will be delighted to help.

Nature and Wellbeing Sessions

You don’t have to be in counselling to benefit from slowing down and reconnecting with the natural world.

Nature-based sessions offer a gentler, experiential approach to wellbeing. Depending on the session, we might explore forest-bathing practices, mindfulness, nature journalling, seasonal gardening, herbal folklore and crafting with nature.

There is no particular outcome you are expected to achieve. Different people notice and connect with different things. Sometimes the value lies simply in creating enough space to notice what is already there.
